文綺堂　蘭斎　作　共箱　蒟醤塗文庫硯箱　でございます。
 
 
文庫・硯箱二つの蓋表には同じデザインの蒟醤が施されており、中心には鳥獣模様を、そしてそれを幾何学模様、地の黒塗りで数度囲んだ図であり、明るい色漆と黒漆で対比させる本作品は、華やかな印象を感じさせるものとなっております。
蓋の裏を見てみると、地の黒塗りに花模様を全体的に施しており、シンプルで上品な作でございます。
また本作品は関西で明治二十五年に開かれた第四回関西聯合府県共進会事務所による博覧会の出品作であり、三等を受賞したお品物となっております。
 
 
2代文綺堂蘭斎は讃岐漆芸の祖、玉楮象谷の甥っ子、象谷の弟の子であります。初代文綺堂は黒斎と号し、兄象谷と同様、讃岐塗の名人として著名であり、明治の初めに第一回、二回の内国勧業博覧会にて作品が受賞されています。文綺堂蘭斎は父黒斎から引き継いだ讃岐塗の技法を守り続け、蒟醤や存清の作品を多く残しております
 
 
蒟醤(きんま)とは漆芸において技法の一つであり元々東南アジアのタイ、ミャンマーから中国の南方部を通って伝えられたものである。透明漆を塗った表面に彫刻刀で模様を彫りこみ、彫り込んだ線や点等の窪みに色のついた漆で描き、平らに表面を研いで完成させる手法である。多くの色、線や点の大小等多種多様に描くことができ、作品の幅が広いものとなっています。
東南アジアからきた技法なのか、蒟醤の作品には湿度にも強い竹ひごの藍胎を使う傾向が多いとされております。

This work follows the tradition of the original Kinma style well and you can see the well paintings of Geometric, bird-animal, and foliage patterns on lids of the surface, while on these of backsides chrysanthemum patterns are carved on the black lacquer. Therefore, it makes feel gorgeous and colorful, on the other hand it also makes do elegant because of the simple and contrast expression on the backside.
 
 
Kinma is one of the techniques in lacquer paintings. Basically it was from Southeast Asia and come through the southern area of China. After coating a basic lacquer on textile (this case, weaved bamboo basket), creators carve lines and dots on it and put colored lacquers and polish the surfaces in the end.
 
The 2nd generation of Bunki-dou Ran-sai was a nephew of Zokoku, Tamakaji, who was the founder and established Sanuki lacquer paintings. His father, Kokusai, was Zokoku’s brother and both brothers had popularity in the techniques of lacquer paintings.
Bunki-dou Ran-sai was also so popular in the techniques, especially in Kinma and Zonsei lacquer style.
